Upcoming Meet: Sweethearts and Orphans VI
If you're suffering through the Mid-Winter Car Show Season Drought, think Texas this coming February.
The North Texas Chapter of the H-E-T Club is hosting the 2005 Sweethearts and Orphans Car Show in Waxahachie, TX, February 18-20.
This show is growing each year and has moved to Waxahachie from its former home base in Granbury.
I like to think of it as the Ypsilanti show of the South, because such an eclectic variety of orphans always shows up.
For more information, email John Clement, or give him a call at (817) 220-5858. (The North Texas Studebaker Club as also posted a helpful information page about the event.)

Movie Wheels: Metropolitan in The Incredibles...sort of
My wife and I went to see The Incredibles this weekend. Once again, Pixar can do no wrong. The film was outstanding on every level. (As a writer/video producer, I love Pixar movies, because they devote superhuman amounts of energy and time to the story. After all, if you don't have a good story, you don't have a good movie.)
Anyway, I was amazed by the automobile designs in the film. You can never really be sure, but the movie looks like it takes place in the late 1950s despite a heapin' helpin' of contemporary science.
But the cars look like the designers played Mr. Potato head with them. The front of a Jaguar joined to the back of a '63 Corvette. A Studebaker Loewy coupe smashed together with an I-don't-know-whatmobile. I had as much fun watching the background as I did following the story!
However, I was mesmerized when I realized that the compact car that Mr. Incredible squashes himself into for the drive home from work every day is a squared-off Metropolitan 1500! Although the top is flat, there's no mistaking the car's inspiration. (The zig-zag paint job gives it away.)
So there you have it. Mr. Incredible drives a Met! If you don't believe me, go see for yourself!
