Coming Soon to an Orphan Car Appreciation Site Near You: Oldsmobile!
America's oldest surviving car brand wrapped up production on its final vehicles this past Thursday. Oldsmobile is about to join Torq-O's proud roster of orphan car brands.
But when does an orphan officially become an orphan?
In this case, GM has ever so slowly put the brand to bed. Unlike a sudden catastrophic event in which the doors are locked and the windows are soaped over, we've known that Oldsmobile's jersey is about to be retired for several years now.
So we at Torq-O feel that we can't properly welcome Olds into the fold until the official end of the model year. Since dealers will be selling off the remaining cars and GM will continue to advertise and promote the brand until then, we feel compelled to wait until the 2005 model year in order to give Oldsmobile a right proper hazing.
As the long-haired street corner prophets say, "The end is near!"
